SPOTLIGHT: U9, U11, U12

U9

The U9 team was newly formed and has shown great potential throughout the Spring season. They finished the season with 13 points in 6 matches, and currently rank third place but have the possibility of finishing second place depending on matches between other teams.

Since the players were still adapting to playing in a new team, the first two league matches were difficult and ended in a loss and a draw. Yet, the team improved and made huge strides very quickly, winning every single league match from then on. The team is strong both in the attack and defense, with many reliable players for every position on the pitch. Overall, the team has scored 38 goals and conceded 12, and even though this is already quite an impressive statistic, it does not accurately reflect the team’s recent accomplishments. 11 of the 12 goals conceded were from the first two matches, here are the average statistics of U9’s last four league matches:

- 4 wins out of 4 matches

- Scored 30, conceded just 1

- 3 clean sheets

- Average of 7.5 goals per match

- 6 goal-scorers

These statistics are especially impressive given the young age division of the team. The U9 is a team full of great potential, their fast improvement in teamwork and organization is sure to send them on a winning path next season as well.

U9’s last match of the season on Saturday showcased their abilities very well, with the team winning 11-1 against their opponents. Tuur’s goal to open up the match came just around 7 seconds into the start of the match, surely taking the record for the fastest goal in Juventus Academy Shanghai history. The first half ended with a comfortable 4-0 score, but the team did not stop trying for more goals and bagged 7 more in the second half. The Juve players also showed great discipline and strength, focusing only on the match despite some disturbances coming from the opponents. All six goal-scorers of the team this season- Tuur, Raymond, Louis, Tameem, Ty, and Jacob- were able to add more to their tally in this one match. What was much more crucial for this win, however, was the willingness for the players to be unselfish and provide beautiful assists to each other. Even with this huge win, the Coach made sure that the players understood the importance of assists- everyone has the ability to score, but not everyone can make the decisive pass that makes the goal. The entire team has shown this philosophy extremely well on the pitch, displaying great spirit and ending the season on an amazing note. Additional thank you to all our supportive parents of the U9 team, your cheers from the sidelines every weekend gives the entire team another reason to fight hard.

U11

Another amazing team, the Juventus U11 is extremely talented and full of great players. After winning Champions in the second division of their age group last season, the team has continued their great performance in the first division. They were able to finish in third place, with 9 points in five official league matches. However, this is certainly a team that can win Champions in any division, and we continue to have this expectation for the team in the coming season.

The two losses that the team saw this season were difficult, as it was never an issue of skill or ability. The team has learned throughout the last few months how to maintain their confidence on the pitch no matter the ongoing result. U11’s comeback win on May 15th showed this progress perfectly, as the team saw themselves 1-3 behind the first half. Yet, the players continued to fight for each other and eventually turned the score around to finish the match with an exhilarating score of 5-4. They have also won many matches comfortably, dominating the opponent in all aspects of the technical and tactical. Here are a few statistics from the team:

- biggest win: 11-0

- 7 different scorers

- 25 goals, an average of 5 goals per match

The team also cruised through their last match of the season with a 5-2 win, taking a comfortable three-goal lead through goals from Jonah and Matthew. Leon and Ines would later widen the scoreline, finishing the season on a strong note. The team is enjoyable to watch, as the skills of these players are truly impressive for their young age. Besides being technically skilled players that are one step ahead of their peers, the U11 is truly a respectful and friendly team that is always encouraging toward each other. Composure and discipline- these are the words that accurately describe our U11 team. Tilde, the captain of this match, is a leader who continues to push her teammates in a positive way. She will be greatly missed as she will return to her home country; the team took the time before and after the match to sign her jersey and share their thoughts on the amazing player and teammate that she is.

U12

The U12 team has played 10 official league matches this season and won a hard-fought silver medal for their amazing performances throughout the season. With 22 points, the team did well to secure wins and lost points only in matches with tight scores. This is a great result for a newly-formed team as they made good progress on the pitch game by game.

If there is one word to describe the U12, it is the word “solid”. From the goalkeeper to the defenders, to the midfield, to the attackers, the team is always reliable and gets the job done. They are a group of disciplined and organized players that always give their all on the pitch, never complaining, and always keen to follow the coach’s guidance. As seen from a few of the team’s smaller scoreline wins, these matches were a pure grind- making sure of the fundamentals to keep a 1 or 2 goal lead and win the crucial three points. Here are some of U12’s impressive stats over 10 matches:

- 7 Wins, 1 Draw, 2 Losses (7胜1平2负)

- 40 goals scored, 18 conceded, GD +22

- Average of 4 goals per match

- Biggest win: 8-0

- Longest win streak: 4 matches

The U12’s last match of the season came at the very end of the day, with the team winning with a strong 4-2 score. Juve took an early lead when the team’s goalkeeper Ryan sent a quick highball before the opponent could recover their position. Great awareness from Leon, as he takes a crucial touch before the opposing keeper could get to the ball and it rolls into the bottom right corner. It doesn’t take much longer for the team to double their lead, as Alan receives a pass on the left and goes into a sprint, finishing clinically in the 16th minute. Though Juve would concede one before the end of halftime, the next two goals are absolute stunners. The third goal was a solo goal from Jonah, who regains possession thanks to Alan, dribbles past the opponents, and fires a beautifully curled shot that falls into the net. In comparison, the fourth goal which brought Juve 4-1 ahead was a great team goal that showcased strong teamwork and cooperation. Again it was Ryan to start the attack, as his accurate throw from the box finds Alan on the left-wing. He goes on a run and takes a shot aiming for the right corner, but the goalkeeper gets a touch on it. Owen gets the rebound and fires it in the bottom left! A penalty was later given to the opponent team, but Juve win their match spectacularly and clinch second place! A quick thank you to the players from U11 that have joined the team from time to time!

Presenting the U12 team: Karen, Mizuna, Saisai, Owen, Alan, Jack, Hanson, Luis Flavio, and Ryan. Congratulations on the silver medal, you all deserve it. Your organization and fight on the pitch are great to watch and we look forward to you winning the gold medal in the near future.
